
JAKARTA – DETEKSIPOST.COM – The Indonesian National Police (Polri) and the New Zealand Police have signed a cooperation agreement in the prevention and eradication of transnational crime as well as capacity building.
The signing of the cooperation between the law enforcement institutions of the two countries was held at the Police Headquarters Building, South Jakarta, Monday (6/12/2021), which was carried out Offline and Online.
“Today we are attending the signing meeting for the cooperation in the prevention and eradication of transnational crime as well as capacity building,” said Sigit, starting his speech.
This collaboration, said Sigit, moves from the development of the strategic environment (lingstra) which continues to change rapidly and uncertainly. Thus, it has an impact on security stability. In fact, the mode of crime continues to grow and new dimensions of crime appear along with the development of technology.
That way, according to the former Banten Police Chief, these crimes no longer recognize borders between countries. Therefore, Sigit is of the view that cooperation between the two countries in the prevention and eradication of crime is very necessary.
“This collaboration aims to improve the ability of the police in both countries, especially in dealing with terrorism, drug trafficking, illegal smuggling, economic crimes and money laundering, cyber crimes, and other transnational crimes,” said the former Police Chief of Criminal Investigation Unit.
With the signing of this collaboration, Sigit hopes that the Police and the New Zealand Police will be more optimal in tackling all forms of crime. Given, this can affect the improvement of the economy.
“Of course, we all hope that the relationship between the National Police and the New Zealand Police will be closer. Effective collaboration will increase the security stability of the two countries so as to support economic growth and support the improvement of people’s welfare,” said Sigit.
Cooperation in the field of security between the Police and the New Zealand police has long been established. Supposedly since 2011. Among them are, 8 bilateral working groups or Bilateral Working Groups, 24 capacity building programs in the form of comparative studies, postgraduate scholarships, and short courses.
Then, 19 criminal information exchange activities and five law enforcement cooperation activities such as regional military operations, deportations and joint investigations.
Meanwhile, the New Zealand Police Chief, Commissioner Mr.Andrew Coster virtually expressed his appreciation for the National Police, related to the focus on tackling these transnational crimes.
“I am very happy that this signing can be carried out. Over the past decade we have carried out very good cooperation. With this updated MoU, of course we can focus on cooperation on things and crimes that have commonly occurred in recent times. this,” said Andrew.
Andrew said that one of the transnational crimes that attracted attention was the circulation of narcotics and money laundering, violent extremism and smuggling or human trafficking.
“Although the Covid-19 pandemic has hit Indonesia, we are still positive that we can continue to work together. And I thank you for the cooperation that has been carried out and I look forward to the time to be able to meet directly with the National Police Chief.
