IMO-Indonesia Condemns the Arrest of Republican Journalists by Israeli Zionists

JAKARTA – DETEKSIPOST.COM – General Chair of the Indonesian Online Media Association (IMO), Yakub F. Ismail, strongly condemned the actions of Israeli Zionist authorities who arrested Republika journalist, Bambang Noroyono, while on a humanitarian mission for the Global Sumud Flotilla to the Gaza Strip.

According to Yakub, Israel’s Zionist action cannot be justified for any reason and is a clear violation of humanitarian principles as well as a serious threat to press freedom.

“We strongly condemn the Israeli Zionist action in arresting Bambang Noroyono’s brother during a humanitarian mission in Gaza. This action is clear evidence of a violation of universal human values and press freedom,” said Yakub in his statement in Jakarta, Tuesday (19/5).

Yakub emphasized that the presence of journalists in conflict areas plays an important role in conveying humanitarian facts and conditions to the international community.

“Journalists exist to convey facts or truth to the world community. Therefore, when journalists are silenced, the world loses access to humanitarian facts that occur in conflict areas,” he said.

For this reason, IMO-Indonesia, said Yakub, urges the Indonesian government to immediately take concrete steps to ensure the safety of Bambang Noroyono and all other humanitarian volunteers.

“We ask the Indonesian government to act quickly to guarantee and ensure the safety of Brother Bambang Noroyono and encourage the release of all detained volunteers,” he stressed. (Team)
