Government of Indonesia and FIFA Agree on Total Transformation of Indonesian Football

JAKARTA – DETEKSIPOST.COM – President Joko Widodo received the President of the International Football Federation (FIFA), Giovani Vicenzo Infantino or Gianni Infantino, with a delegation at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday, October 18, 2022. During a joint press statement, President Jokowi said that the government and FIFA agreed to carry out the transformation of Indonesian football as a whole
 
According to the President, the transformation was carried out to ensure that all aspects of the match run according to the safety standards set by FIFA, including ensuring the safety of players and spectators.
 
“We agreed to review the feasibility of the stadium and also apply technology to help mitigate various potentials that endanger spectators and players,” said the President.
 
In addition, the President continued, the Indonesian government together with FIFA will review Indonesian football stakeholders. This is also one of the efforts to ensure the transformation process of Indonesian football goes well.
 
“The government together with FIFA want to ensure the transformation process of Indonesian football runs according to the standards set,” he continued.
 
At the meeting, President Jokowi said that the FIFA President expressed his deep condolences and sympathy for the families of the victims, as well as their concern for the tragedy. The tragedy that occurred on October 1 was a lesson for the world of football, especially Indonesian football.
 
“Don’t let this incident happen again. Don’t let the excitement of the football match spectators lead to sorrow and disaster,” he added.
 
Furthermore, the President encouraged the agreement between the Indonesian government and FIFA to be used as a momentum to improve the Indonesian football system to make it even better in the future.
 
“Let’s make this agreement a momentum for improving the Indonesian football system so that Indonesian football becomes national pride and performs better in the future,” he said.
